History of D&H Canal at Rail Trail Cafe - Saturday, September 25th at 1:00 PM
Join us at the Rail Trail Cafe for a presentation about the D& H canal with Bill Merchant.
Bill Merchant is the Deputy Director for Collections, Historian and Curator (as well as past president) of the D&H Canal Historical Society, president of the D&H Transportation Heritage Council, vice president of the Ulster County Historical Society, and chair of collections at the Century House Historical Society. He has presented on the subject of the D&H Canal extensively at the Canal Museum as well as many other local cultural institutions. His presentations feature many wonderful period photographs of the Canal from the Society’s extensive collections. He is currently working on a book on the subject. Bill is also a double bass luthier, with shops in High Falls and Manhattan. In his career as a luthier he has worked for many national and international bassists, covering the full spectrum of musical styles, as well as many orchestras and museums.
